Participating in sports at a young age is becoming more common and should be encouraged due to its many benefits. However, it is now the norm for many children to play multiple sports year round which can lead to burn-outs and over-use injuries.
Children are unique in the way they develop, having very different muscle and bone structures to adults, therefore requiring different treatment.
This makes them more vulnerable to a specific and different set of injuries that do not occur in adults.
“Bones of children are ‘softer’, more resilient and elastic, able to withstand greater forces making large fractures less common. However, this makes them susceptible to smaller ‘green stick’ fractures”.
Here at Gardens Physiotherapy we have experience and knowledge regarding the risks and needs of this age group.
We can provide advice regarding sports activity and how your child can perform at their best, well into their later years.
